Transition from classic to modern

Today there seems to be, yet in architecture and design, a very fine threshold line between classic and modern, the two cornerstones form which the most notable styles were born. In mid-twentieth century vintage furniture, the question is natural: are we talking about a classic or a modern style? What is often confusing is the combination of classic elements in modern environments, so it is difficult to recognize the true style of the house.

To know the transition from classic to modern, we must certainly start with their definition, to then understand the qualitative differences between the two and how to choose one over the other.

Classic and modern: what styles are they?

Today with “classic” we mean a reproduction of a style of the past, in some cases a real elaboration of it: we see it from the detailed decorations, sinuous shapes and frames. In the classic style there is a tendency to the curve, warm and antiqued coloring sometimes and the use of traditional and solid materials, such as wood.

Modern style, on the other hand, is much more linear, simple (which does not mean simplistic), minimal and clear. Often the concept of design is associated only with it, for an idea of avant-garde, but it is not always so. Surely the modern style is in line with the trends, but it is not the only object of design. In fact, even the classic style, the vintage one of the mid-twentieth century in particular, is the protagonist of contemporary furniture and design research.

Classic-modern: a new design formula

Today there are hybrid forms between classic and modern, referred to as Contemporary classic, a perfect mix that combines the elegance of the past (hence classic) and the minimal and clean lines of the contemporary (hence modern). Everything is based on the combination of a modern design with classic lines, in their pivotal elements.

Although the two appear completely different, they have points of contact and the real beauty lies in their contrasts. The fusion of the classic and modern enriches both canons, creating an original and particular result. It is a very refined and sophisticated technique, in which the primary elements of both styles are maintained but the environment is equally homogeneous.

Modern is enriched by the elements of classic, and at the same time vintage is lightened by the linearity and simplicity of modern. A house in full vintage design runs the risk of appearing heavy, at the same time a modern room could look empty. A combination of the two resolves the limitations in a perfect balance.

Furniture style between classic and modern: a timeless design

Mixing classic and modern creates a new timeless design that today conquers all. To emerge in this mix there are certainly the classic decorations, for example, which bring the vintage style in modern environments and geometric contemporary patterns. The result is a refined balance, which does not exceed either in one style or another, but, by dosing the elements of the other, manages to give the environment a serenity of form. The aesthetic taste dominates in the choice of a style that crosses the ages, overcoming the transition from classic to modern, giving the house an authentic and new spirit.
